Israeli forces spray-paint Hebrew slogans on historic Roman-era wall in archaeological site near Nablus

NABLUS, November 29, 2024 (WAFA) - Israeli forces Friday spray-painted Hebrew slogans on a historic Roman-era wall in the archaeological site of Sebastia, northwest of Nablus.

Mohammad Azem, the mayor of Sebastia, told WAFA that Israeli forces raided the town, setting up checkpoints at the entrances and firing live rounds in the area.

The mayor slammed the Israeli soldiers’ graffiti on the ancient Colonnaded Street as a clear violation of international law and UNESCO’s resolutions to preserve cultural heritage.

Sebastia, a town with rich historical significance, has been the target of repeated Israeli military and colonists attacks. These actions are part of a broader Israeli effort to alter the demographic and cultural landscape of the area through supporting colonial settlement projects around the site and facilitating colonists’ incursions while restricting Palestinian access to the area.
