JERUSALEM, November 23, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces shut down the Jaba' military checkpoint on Saturday evening, which separates the towns of al-Ram and Jaba' and serves as the southern entrance to the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate.
According to local eyewitnesses, Israeli soldiers closed the metal gate at the checkpoint, halting the passage of vehicles. This led to a severe traffic jam in the surrounding areas, including the towns of al-Ram, Qalandiya refugee camp, and the town of Kafr Aqab. Hundreds of vehicles traveling toward Palestinian cities in the south of the West Bank, as well as to the eastern city of Jericho, were left stranded.
The closure of the Jaba' checkpoint has been a recurring tactic by Israeli occupation forces since the beginning of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, with reports indicating that such closures are aimed at easing the movement of Israeli settlers traveling along the colonial Route 60 toward Jerusalem, while severely restricting the movement of Palestinian citizens.
This action is seen as part of a broader pattern of disruptions to daily life for Palestinians in the West Bank, with many residents expressing frustration over the continuous military presence and restrictions on movement imposed by Israeli authorities.
