JERUSALEM, November 20, 2024 (WAFA) – The Israeli municipality of occupied Jerusalem has imposed a heavy fine on a Palestinian citizen of the city, citing unfounded claims, while also intensifying its demolition campaign across the occupied city.
On Wednesday, the Israeli authorities fined Shadi Samrin, a Palestinian citizen of Jerusalem, and his wife 50,000 shekels for allegedly parking their vehicles in an area that Israel claims is a Jewish cemetery in the Wadi al-Rababah neighborhood of Silwan, south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
According to the Palestinian Authority's Jerusalem Governorate, this fine is part of ongoing measures by the Israeli municipality to target Palestinians with arbitrary fees and fines, often based on dubious claims related to property and land.
In addition to this, the Israeli police issued fines on vehicles near the Bab al-Magharbah area and in the Thawri neighborhood, both of which are Palestinian-dominated areas in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided the home of 35-year-old Tha'er Jamal Asila in the Old City of Jerusalem. Asila, who was detained on Monday, is being held by Israeli authorities. Earlier, Israeli forces had raided his home in the Zayim neighborhood in northeastern Jerusalem, searching and ransacking his property.
In a separate development, Israeli forces stormed the Shua'fat refugee camp and carried out raids in the Ras Khamis area, in the northeastern part of Jerusalem.
Additionally, Israeli forces set up military checkpoints in the Jabal al-Mukaber neighborhood in the south of the city and closed the military checkpoint near the town of Jaba' to the northeast of Jerusalem.
