Israeli colonist attempt to run over Palestinian in Hebron

HEBRON, November 6, 2024 (WAFA) – An Israeli colonist Wednesday attempted to run over a Palestinian in the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron.

Yasser Abu Markhiya, 52, told WAFA that an Israeli colonist driving a car attempted to deliberately run him over in the Hebron neighbourhood of Tal Rumeida.

Abu Markhiya added that he was subjected to an attempted car-ramming attack by the colonist as he was along with a group of children preparing for a children's entertainment activity, scheduled to be organized by the “Farah w Marah" children's program tomorrow, Thursday, at the Ibrahim al-Khalil Society in the neighbourhood.

He pointed out that the colonist’s car slammed into the cart he was pushing in the neighbourhood, only inflicting wounds in his foot and causing damage to the cart, while the children managed to escape from the attempted attack.

The Palestinian neighbourhood is located in the Israeli-controlled area of the old town, known as H2, where several hundred extremist Jewish settlers are based. Israel heavily restricts the movement and activity of Palestinians in the H2 area while allowing the settlers free movement and access.

The city of Hebron, which houses the Ibrahimi Mosque, is home to roughly 160,000 Palestinian Muslims and about 800 notoriously aggressive Israeli settlers who live in compounds heavily guarded by Israeli troops.

Israel has expelled the only international monitors protecting Hebron’s Palestinians from 800 heavily guarded settlers, one of whom committed the 1994 massacre that triggered their deployment.
