QALQILIA, November 2, 2024 (WAFA) — Israeli restrictions at the Karama border crossing, on the Palestine-Jordan border, have led to the spoilage of approximately 20 tons of avocados produced in Qalqilya Governorate.
Mhammad Shreim, a local merchant, informed WAFA that he had completed arrangements for four truckloads of avocados to be exported to Jordan. Upon arrival, Israeli authorities allowed only one truck to pass, sending back three.
Shreim noted that the occupation later announced the reopening of the crossing for the remaining shipments but delayed the process without any resolution. After three days, the three trucks were returned to the packing facility in the town of Habla, south of Qalqilya.
Upon inspection, Shreim found that around 20 tons of the nearly 70 tons of avocados had spoiled, estimating his losses at about 100,000 shekels. He holds the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the damage.
