RAMALLAH, Wednesday, August 7, 2024 (WAFA) - Grant Contracts for two Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) were signed today by Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, Nakashima Yoichi, and the representatives of Al Yamoun Municipality and Deir Abu Da’ief Village Council, at the Representative Office of Japan to Palestine in Ramallah, for a total amount of $267,930.
Al Yamoun Municipality will use the funds of $133,000 to construct four additional classrooms, each 40㎡ in size, at Ahmad Abduloahab Elementary School for Boys in Al Yamoun.
This will improve the educational environment for students currently using the mosque and the feminist center. The project will benefit a total of 247 students; 85 from the Mosque classrooms and 162 from the feminist center.
Deir Abu Da’ief Village Council will use the funds of $134,930 to install two 400 kVA transformers and extend 1,390 meters of medium voltage line to supply stable electricity throughout the village and enable the operation of water pumps to be installed by a project funded by World Bank.
This project will benefit about 1,750 households and approximately 8,000 residents in Deir Abu Da’ief.
Nakashima emphasized Japan’s firm commitment to supporting the Palestinian people from a human security perspective, as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.
Since 1993, the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately USD 2.5 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority since 2010.
