RAMALLAH, Saturday, June 22, 2024 (WAFA) – Palestine today welcomed Cuba’s decision to join South Africa in its case against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry stated in a press statement that Cuba’s decision to join South Africa in its lawsuit against Israel over its ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip as an indication not only of Cuba’s unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of international law but also of the deep solidarity and historical friendship between Cuba and Palestine.
It called on all the States parties to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to join and announce their active participation in the measures before the ICJ.
It concluded that ending the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and combating the impunity of Israel are responsibilities that all state parties should shoulder together for the good of humanity and law.
Tried before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, killing at least 37,551 Palestinians and injuring over 85,911 others.
Moreover, approximately 10,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
