WASHINGTON, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 (WAFA) – American rapper Macklemore has released a new song for Palestine titled 'Hind’s Hall,' inspired by the current pro-Palestine student protests happening around the world, most notably in the United States.
The song also pays tribute to Hind Rajab, a Palestinian child, 6, who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza while she was waiting for help.
"Hind's Hall" samples Ana La Habibi, a famous song by Lebanese legendary singer Fairouz, and addresses several social issues such police brutality, US politics, white supremacy, social media censorship and student activism.
Macklemore said that he will donate all streaming proceeds for the new song to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In November, Macklemore was present at the pro-Palestine massive protest that took place in Washington, DC, and gave a speech before thousands of people who attended the rally.
The rapper, 40, found himself taking the stage and speaking to a crowd of thousands of people who came to show support for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing brutal aggression by Israeli occupation forces.
“First and foremost, this is absolutely beautiful to observe today,” the rapper said when he took the stage. “I didn’t expect to be on a microphone,” said Macklemore. “There are thousands of people here more qualified to speak on the issue of a free Palestine than myself.”
“But I will say this,” Macklemore added. “They told me to be quiet. They told me to do my research, to go back, that it’s too complex to say something, right? To be silent in this moment. In the last three weeks I’ve gone back and I’ve done some research … I’m teachable. I don’t know enough. But I know enough that this is a genocide.”
