PCBS: Approximately 1.1 million Palestinians are in the Rafah governorate

GAZA, Thursday, April 25, 2024 (WAFA) – Approximately 1.1 million Palestinians are in the Rafah governorate in the southern blockaded Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

PCBS said that the number of Palestinians residing in the Rafah governorate up to 22 April was estimated at 1.1 million, living in an area of 63.1 km².

It added that the population density in the governorate was 4,360 people/km² on the eve of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, and has reached approximately 50,017 people/km², which poses a humanitarian and natural disaster and puts immense pressure on the already scarce services.

The PCBS pointed out that the number of Palestinian citizens in the Gaza and northern Gaza governorates is approximately 511,000 and that in the Khan Younes and central Gaza governorates is 685,000, and these numbers were estimated with taking into account the instability of the displacement movement.

It noted that it estimated the numbers of Palestinians in Rafah governorate based on a set of actual data that captured the situation in the pre-offensive period and in the course of the offensive using data from several sources as part of the national statistical system and the PCBS-issued population estimates.
