RAMALLAH, Sunday, November 12, 2023 (WAFA) - An Israeli occupation court decided today to release 30-year-old Palestinian journalist Sumayya Jawabreh, from Nablus, after imposing harsh and retaliatory conditions on her and her journalistic work.
The retaliatory conditions, according to a statement issued by the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS), are a financial bail of NIS10,000 (approximately $2,500), in addition to a third-party bail of NIS50,000 (around 12,900).
The journalist was also placed under indefinite house arrest, and banned from using the internet. She, along with her husband and mother-in-law, must also remain under house supervision.
PPS slammed these conditions imposed by the Israeli occupation on the journalist as part of the ongoing unrelenting and vindictive targeting of Palestinian journalists through a series of systematic policies, including being detained for allegedly "inciting" on social networks.
After October 7, 26 journalists were detained by the Israeli occupation, including Jawabreh. Some were transferred to administrative detention, without charge or trial and on the basis of secret evidence
Israeli forces detained Palestinian journalist Jawabra in Nablus on November 5, after being summoned for interrogation for allegedly “inciting” on social media.
Jawabra is a mother of three, aged 2, 4, and 6, and is currently pregnant in her seventh month. She has a Bachelor's degree in media studies - radio and TV.
She works as a freelance journalist with different news outlets.
