Finance ministry returns clearance funds transferred by Israel because of deductions, salaries will be delayed

Finance ministry returns clearance funds transferred by Israel because of deductions, salaries will be delayed

RAMALLAH, Thursday, November 9, 2023 (WAFA) - The Ministry of Finance said today that it returned to Israel the clearance fund transfer due to Israel’s deduction of amounts it claims are equivalent to the Palestinian government’s payments to the Gaza Strip, which will cause a delay in the disbursement of October salaries.

“Israel deducted 600 million shekels from the monthly clearance funds under the pretext that part of this amount includes salaries, employee allowances, and expenses for the Gaza Strip,” said the Ministry in a statement.

"Based on this hostile, inhumane and illegal step, the Palestinian leadership and government took a decision not to receive the clearing transfer and return it, and the reduced amount was actually returned this Thursday morning."

The Ministry said, “Since the clearing funds (the Palestinian tax revenues) are the funds that constitute a primary source for paying the monthly salaries of public employees, we inform you with regret that for this reason there will be a delay in the payment of October salaries.”
