Newspapers Review: The ongoing Israeli war on Gaza and the large death toll highlight of the dailies

RAMALLAH, Thursday, November 9, 2023 (WAFA) - The war of starvation, and street war in Gaza were only some of the headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today, al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida.

The three papers continued to focus on the ongoing Israeli barbaric war against the Gaza Strip and the high death toll, most of them children and women.

Al-Ayyam said Israel’s war of starvation threatens the lives of Gazans.

Al-Quds said street wars in Gaza, and Washington has expressed concern over Israeli settlers’ violence in the West Bank.

Half of al-Hayat al-Jadida’s front page included a picture of the destruction in Gaza and then proceeded to give details about the aftermath of this brutal war.

It also said that the occupation forces demolished a house in Shufat refugee camp and broke into Birzeit University campus, while many were detained and injured in the army’s incursion into the cities and villages in the West Bank.

It also reported on the two phone calls President Mahmoud Abbas received from the Australian and Dutch prime ministers, as well as the meeting between Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and the UNRWA Commission-General.

Al-Quds said Qatar was mediating the release of Israeli prisoners in return for a truce.

It also quoted US Secretary of State Blinken saying Israel cannot run Gaza and that the US refused the forceful displacement of the Palestinians.

It quoted Jordan’s Foreign Minister saying that ending the war on Gaza is a duty for the entire world and that Jordan rejects bringing Arab or international forces to run the Gaza Strip.

Al-Ayyam said 280 people were killed and hundreds were wounded in 30 new Israeli massacres in Gaza.

It talked about intensive efforts to declare a three-day truce in return for the release of 12 prisoners held in Gaza, half of them Americans.

It said the resistance in Gaza said they destroyed 136 Israeli armored vehicles either totally or partially.

It said that incitement and attacks against Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem and in Israel are on the rise, and settlers have escalated their attacks against Palestinian farmers in the West Bank.
