Labor ministry, donors discuss situation of Gaza workers dismissed from their work in Israel

RAMALLAH, Thursday, October 26, 2023 (WAFA) - Minister of Labor Nasri Abu Jaish discussed with a number of international donors via Zoom the latest developments regarding the situation of Gaza Strip workers who were forcibly removed from their workplaces in Israel after being beaten and abused by Israeli occupation forces and then displaced to the West Bank, in addition to the arrest of a large number of them.

Abu Jaish called on the donors, according to a statement by the ministry, to provide the necessary support to protect Gaza workers in the West Bank, and to intervene immediately to help absorb the workers, given their increasing numbers, and to provide suitable shelters for them, as well as providing their basic needs.

He said the Palestinian government formed an emergency committee since the start of the aggression on Gaza to receive the workers, provide housing for them in various governorates, and provide them with the necessary needs.

The Ministry of Labor also launched an electronic platform that includes information related to Gaza workers, which enables their families to check on them.

The ministry also called on all international and human rights organizations to intervene immediately and urgently to protect the detained workers from any Israeli practices and violations against them.

The meeting agreed to prepare an emergency plan to support Gaza workers in the West Bank at the humanitarian and legal levels in order to provide them with the requirements of a decent life until they return to the Gaza Strip safely.
