Newspapers Review: Death of 3-year-old child of wounds sustained by Israeli army bullets focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, June 6, 2023 (WAFA0 –The death of 3-year-old Mohammad Tamimi, four days after he was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers in his village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah, was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

The dailies printed pictures of Tamimi after his body arrived in Ramallah in preparation to bury him today in his village.

Tamimi was shot in the head and his father, who was next to him in a car, was also injured in the same incident.

Al-Ayyam daily quoted the UN special coordinator Tor Wennesland calling for accountability for the soldiers responsible for shooting the Tamimis.

Al-Quds daily said Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem buried Hatem Abu Nijmeh, 39, whose body was held by Israel for more than 40 days. The funeral was held under strict police restrictions and in the presence of a handful of people.

In other news, the dailies reported on the ongoing Israeli measures in the occupied territories, such as seizing more than 40 dunums of land near Salfit for settlement purposes and seizing a tractor while working on land reclamation in Beit Furik, as well as attacks by settlers on Palestinian homes in the West Bank.

Al-Quds said the body of the Egyptian soldier who killed three Israeli soldiers last week was returned to Egypt while the Palestinian factions in Jenin, in the north of the West Bank, received condolences on his behalf.

Al-Ayyam said Egyptian officials met in Cairo with high-ranking delegations from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said Ali Muhanna was sworn-in as president of the Higher Constitutional Court.

It also said the Palestinian cabinet approved the construction of grain storage silos in the West Bank and Gaza Strip that would hold 80,000 tons of wheat.

It also said the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate called for boycotting the fellowship project of the Global Investigative Journalism Network.
