Newspapers Review: Injury of Palestinians during confrontations, Erdogan re-elected president focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, May 29, 2023 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today highlighted the injury of Palestinians during confrontations with Israeli soldiers and settlers in the occupied territories and the re-election of Erdogan for a new five-year term as president of Turkiye.

Two youths were injured by army bullets near the village of al-Mughayyer, in the Ramallah area, and a third in Tulkarm refugee camp, said the main front-page story headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida daily.

Al-Ayyam daily also highlighted the injuries in its main front-page story headline and said several people were injured when confronting attempts to raid Tulkarm and Arroub refugee camps.

The third daily, al-Quds, also reported on the injuries from the confrontations but highlighted as its main front-page story headline the victory of Erdogan in the Turkish presidential elections.

The other two dailies also highlighted this story with al-Hayat al-Jadida saying that President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated Erdogan on the victory.

In other news, al-Ayyam said Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh leaves for Cairo today heading a ministerial delegation for bilateral talks.

It said the Israeli police carried out a large-scale campaign against Palestinian workers in Israel.

It printed a picture of Palestinian and Israeli students demonstrating at Tel Aviv University against a new law that restricts raising the Palestinian flag.

Al-Quds quoted the UNRWA spokesperson saying that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees is capable to cover expenses for services until September only.

It reported on talks regarding an Israeli law that declares natural and archeological reserves in the West Bank and Israeli national sites, which is a step toward annexing them.
