Israeli forces raid, ransack homes of former Palestinian prisoners

JERUSALEM, Sunday, February 26, 2023 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Sunday broke into the family houses of former Palestinian prisoners in the town of Silwan, in the occupied city of Jerusalem, local sources confirmed.

The sources said that the soldiers raided the house of Suhaib al-A'war, a former prisoner behind Israeli bars, and briefly detained his parents in one of the rooms as they ransacked the house allegedly looking for money.

Israeli forces have recently broken into dozens of houses of prisoners and former prisoners and seized money, expensive belongings as well as bank accounts of prisoners' families.

This comes after Israeli Jewish supremacist Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich ordered the imposing of financial penalties on 87 Palestinian prisoners from occupied Jerusalem, under the pretext of receiving money from the Palestinian Authority.

Seizing money that belongs to Palestinian prisoners and former prisoners is a policy that Israel has been practicing for years, which includes the seizing of jewelry and personal belongings.
