RAMALLAH, Tuesday, February 14, 2023 (WAFA) - The overall consumer price index (CPI) for Palestine during January recorded an increase by 0.34% compared with the previous month, December, and by 3.73% compared with January 2022, today said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).
The increase in January CPI came as a result of the increase in the prices of fresh chicken, eggs, cigarettes and transportation, it said.
The CPI increased by 0.78% in the West Bank in January compared to December, while it decreased by 0.76% in the Gaza Strip, and by 0.15% in Jerusalem.
Compared to January of last year, the CPI increased by 4.43% in Jerusalem, by 4.24% in the West Bank, and by 1.69% in the Gaza Strip.
The changes in Palestinian CPI during January 2023 were traced back to changes in prices of the following expenditure subgroups compared with the previous month:
