RAMALLAH, Sunday, February 5, 2023 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Health announced today the opening of the first paediatric cardiac catheterization ward in the governmental health sector in Palestine at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah.

Health Minister Mai Alkaila said the first therapeutic catheterization was performed for a 13-year-old child who was suffering from an opening in the heart between the right and left atrium, noting that the opening was closed with a catheter.

She pointed out that the patient was discharged to home, and that he will be followed up according to the treatment plan.

Ahmed Al-Bitawi, the Executive Director of the Complex, said the “success of this project is the result of strenuous efforts by the Ministry of Health and the medical staff at the Palestine Medical Complex."

He pointed out that an integrated national team that is highly qualified and trained in the area of paediatric cardiac catheterization will be providing this service to patients within a few days, which will nationalize this service and stop the need for referrals of those in need of this critical service to hospitals abroad.
