RAMALLAH, Sunday, November 27, 2022 (WAFA) – The PLO Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said today that two sick Palestinian prisoners held in the Israeli prison of Naqab are facing deliberate medical negligence by the Israeli prison authorities.
It said prisoner Raji Zahran, 44 years old from the village of Deir Abu Meshaal, has been suffering from gum infections for more than five years that have resulted in the decay and loss of most of his teeth. Zahran was sent to the prison clinic several times, said the Commission, but the Israeli Prison Service has been refusing to provide him with the necessary medical treatment.
The other prisoner, Iyad Samhan, 47 years old from the village of Ein Sinya, who is sentenced to 30 years in prison, has also been suffering from pains in the right side of the abdomen, urethra, testicles, and chest. He is already suffering from cholesterol and pressure in the heart, but the prison clinic has so far given him painkillers only, and he improves for a while before the same pains return soon.
The Commission held the Israel Prison Service fully responsible for the medical negligence against the Palestinian prisoners, calling meantime on international human rights institutions and the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene to save their lives.
