ROME, July 1, 2025 (WAFA) – The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Holy See, Issa Kassissieh, on Tuesday delivered a letter from President Mahmoud Abbas to Pope Leo XIV, expressing deep appreciation for the Pope’s principled and honorable positions in calling for an end to the brutal war against the Palestinian people.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the letter also marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement between the State of Palestine and the Holy See, which was concluded on June 24, 2015, and through which the Vatican officially recognized the State of Palestine.
Both sides affirmed their continued full commitment to the agreement and to strengthening and deepening bilateral relations.
They also agreed to review certain provisions of the agreement in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs, in a manner that supports the Catholic Church in the State of Palestine.
The two parties reiterated their joint pursuit of justice and peace based on international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions, and emphasized the importance of preserving the authentic Christian presence in the Holy Land and reinforcing its steadfastness.
