RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 8, 2021 (WAFA) – The recent developments in occupied East Jerusalem, particularly the police raid at Al-Aqsa Mosque in the old city and the large toll of injuries caused by the police attacks against worshippers, were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
“The occupation forces raid Al-Aqsa and suppress the worshippers injuring 163 and shuts the doors to the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” said the main front-page headline in al-Quds daily printed over pictures showing the police attack and thousands of worshippers at the Muslim holy site.
Al-Ayyam daily said in its main headline: “The occupation turns Jerusalem into an open field of confrontations … barbaric raid of Al-Aqsa and Sheikh Jarrah (neighborhood) as dozens are injured.”
The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, reported on the situation in Jerusalem and also on President Mahmoud Abba, presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, and Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh condemning in separate statements the Israeli police attacks against the Palestinian civilian population in East Jerusalem.
It quoted the United Nations saying that evicting Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood could be considered a war crime.
The three papers also reported on the wide Arab condemnation of the Israeli aggression in East Jerusalem.
