Weather forecast: Stormy, rainy conditions expected

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 (WAFA) – Weather today is stormy, cloudy and very cold and temperature is set to further drop as the low pressure and the polar cold front continue to affect the region, according to the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Torrential rain showers and thunderstorms are expected on all districts, with occasional hail. Chance of snow flurries on mountains at an altitude of 700 meters and above, especially in the central and northern mountain peaks in the morning, before extending to the southern peaks in the afternoon and evening.

Active southwesterly to northwesterly wind blows in daytime, while active northwesterly to westerly wind blows in nighttime with occasional gusts. Sea waves are high.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 3°C and a low of 2°C and in Ramallah and Hebron a high of 2°C and a low of 1°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea, and the Jordan Valley temperature is expected to reach a high of 12°C and a low of 8°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 11°C and a low of 7°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

The cloudy, stormy and very cold conditions are expected to continue on Thursday. Scattered torrential rain showers with thunderstorms and occasional hail are expected. There is a chance of snow flurries on mountains at an altitude of 900 meters and above in the early morning.  

Friday’s temperature is set to rise, yet it remains unseasonably low with cloudy and very cold conditions. Occasional rain showers and thunderstorms are expected on most districts, with the chance of rain tapering off towards the evening.

Saturday’s temperature is set to further rise, yet remains unseasonably low on Saturday, with partly cloudy to cloudy and cold conditions. Scattered rain showers are set to continue to fall in the north and center.

PMD warns people against very low temperature, flash floods in flood-prone areas, gusty wind which could reach 90 km/h, slippery roads and low horizontal visibility.
