RAMALLAH, Tuesday, February 16, 2021 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh discussed with Head of Mission of the Office of the Quartet John Clarke the latest political developments and the holding of general elections in Palestine.
Shtayyeh affirmed during a meeting held in Ramallah Palestine’s readiness to engage in a serious political track based on international legitimacy and international law.
The premier said: “The holding of elections is an irreversible existential issue for us, as it paves the way toward ending the division and achieving reconciliation.”
They also discussed preparations for the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) meeting, which will be held in New York on the 23rd of this month.
Shatyyeh further reviewed the latest contacts with the new US administration, including restoring relations with it, especially with regard to reopening the PLO office in Washington and the US Consulate General in Jerusalem as a political priority, in addition to supporting the city of Jerusalem and its hospitals, and restoring assistance to UNRWA.
For his part, Deputy Head of Mission of the Office of the Quartet stressed the Quartet’s readiness to support the conduct of the elections, accelerate efforts to restore bilateral relations with the United States, as well as support the implementation of development projects, especially those targeting the energy and water sectors, with priority given to the Gaza Strip.
