RAMALLAH, Sunday, January 31, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 13 new cases of the British mutation of coronavirus were registered in Palestine, bringing the total cases registered since last week to 41.
She said in a press release that three cases were registered in Ramallah, five in the outskirts of Jerusalem, four in Bethlehem, and one in Hebron.
Alkaila pointed out that patients of the new coronavirus mutation have developed the same symptoms as the rest of those infected with the original variant, but said medical teams were closely monitoring their conditions.
She added that other samples suspected of being infected with the new mutation are currently under examination in the laboratories of the Arab America University in Ramallah in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
"The source of the British mutation [in Palestine] is not yet known. Preventive medicine teams will be tracking the source," said the health minister.
