President Abbas receives solidarity letter from Vietnamese counterpart

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, December 02, 2020 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas received a letter of solidarity from his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyễn Phú Trọng, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

In his letter, The Vietnamese president said: “Today we are commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People at a time when the struggle of the Palestinian people faces many great and unprecedented difficulties and challenges; as the Covid-19 pandemic casts its shadow on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, millions of Palestinian refugees continue to face humanitarian crises, and Gaza and the West Bank are under serious threats.”

He added that our firm position regarding the settlement of the Palestinian issue is based on adopting peaceful means in order to reach a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement based on respect for international law and all relevant UN resolutions, in a manner that guarantees the legitimate interests of all concerned parties, in particular the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living alongside the State of Israel.

He affirmed Vietnam's support for all initiatives and efforts to resolve the conflict peacefully on the basis of international law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, including President Mahmoud Abbas’s initiative to hold an international peace conference early next year with the participation of all parties,

He stressed the need to stop taking measures that complicate the situation, in order to achieve the interests of countries and to contribute to achieving peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.

He explained that Vietnam had made contributions to support the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), urging international partners to continue to increase support for the Palestinian people, especially the refugees.

He stressed that Vietnam will always stand by the State of Palestine and the Palestinian people.
