Palestine Ends 2011 with 2.9 Million Cellular Subscribers

RAMALLAH, July 24, 2012 (WAFA) - The number of subscribers in the Palestinian cellular phone companies by the end of 2011 in the Palestinian Territory was 2.9 million subscribers, a growth rate of 10.8% compared with 2010, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said Tuesday.

It said in its annual report on Transportation and Communication Statistics in the Palestinian Territory in 2011 that the number of subscribers to land telephone lines in the Palestinian Territory was 283,077, an increase by 6.2% compared to 2010.

It said the total number of licensed vehicles in the West Bank was 138,644 at the end of 2011, an increase by 1.7% compared to 2010. The data showed that private cars formed 72.4% of the total vehicles in the West Bank.

The report results showed that the total number of workers in the transport, storage and communication activity in 2011 increased by 6% of the total workers in the Palestinian Territory.

It said the number of registered road accidents in the West Bank reached 7,406 in 2011, an increase by 36.9% in comparison to 2010.

The number of casualties in 2011 was 7,970, an increase by 13.3% compared to 2010. Those slightly injured formed 86% out of the total injured persons and the rate of fatally injured formed 1.5% compared to 1.9% fatally injured in 2010.
