JERUSALEM, May 31, 2012 (WAFA) – News anchorman at the independent American cable news channel MSNBC Richard Lui shared with Palestinian journalists in Jerusalem and Ramallah ideas and experiences in broadcast journalism, according to a press release by the US Consulate General in Jerusalem issued Thursday.
The Consulate General in Jerusalem hosted Lui, a daytime anchor at MSNBC, for discussions and presentations in Ramallah and Jerusalem. The one-day program included a discussion with presenters and anchors from several Palestinian television stations, an interactive workshop with journalism students from Al-Quds University, and a presentation for the general public in Jerusalem, said the press release.
During his discussion with his Palestinian counterparts, Lui spoke about his experience as a news anchor at CNN, MSNBC and NBC’s weekend Today’s show.
Lui and the Palestinian participants exchanged ideas and shared experiences peer-to-peer as broadcast journalists, including the role and impact of and trends in broadcast journalism, challenges facing broadcast journalists, and ways to strengthen journalism skills and improve job performance, said the press release.
While in Ramallah, Lui conducted a mini-workshop with 50 journalism students from Al-Quds University. In addition to covering practical aspects of TV broadcasting fundamentals, Lui demonstrated a number of simple but effective techniques to enhance presenters’ enunciation and presentation skills.
At the recently relocated America House in East Jerusalem, a number of Jerusalemites, including journalists, teachers, representatives from non-governmental organizations, and students interacted with Lui during his presentation entitled, “A View from the Anchor’s Chair.”
During his presentation at America House, Lui discussed why he decided to leave a successful business career to become a journalist, his experiences as an Asian American in America and how it influences how he lives his life, his commitment to learn about the world around him in order to be a better journalist and advance causes he believes in, and his work to improve the lives of people in his community and throughout the world.
Speaking of his trip to the region, Lui said, 'The events I was able to be a part of in the West Bank and Jerusalem were truly dynamic. The opportunity to meet with my Palestinian counterparts, aspiring journalists and broadcast journalism students was hopefully just the first of many.”

Lui conducted similar programs in Amman and participated in a Habitat for Humanity building project in northern Jordan before traveling to Jerusalem and Ramallah.
Richard Lui is an American journalist and daytime news anchor for MSNBC. Before joining MSNBC, Lui was a news anchor for five years at CNN Worldwide. When Lui joined CNN Headline News in 2007, he became the first Asian American male to anchor a daily, national cable news show in the United States.
Before journalism, Lui spent 15 years in business with Fortune 500 and technology companies.
Lui’s visit is among the many programs sponsored by the U.S. Consulate General throughout the year in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, which promote dialogue and mutual understanding between Palestinians and Americans, said the press release.
