RAMALLAH, May 31, 2012 (WAFA) – Remains of 91 Palestinians killed in attacks against Israeli targets held by Israel in graves marked only by numbers arrived in Ramallah and Gaza Thursday to be later buried by their families, according to Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein al-Sheikh.
He said the remains of 79 Palestinians delivered to Ramallah will be laid at the presidential headquarters to receive official funeral ceremonies attended by President Mahmoud Abbas. The remaining 12 were sent to the Gaza Strip.
Families are expected to attend the ceremonies after which they will take the remains to bury them in their towns and villages. Remains of some fighters killed decades ago in attacks against Israel, including seven from a 1975 attack on Savoy hotel in Tel Aviv, will be buried in Ramallah.
Israel has kept bodies of some 300 Palestinian fighters in cemeteries inside Israel marked only by numbers. It turned over bodies of two Palestinians last year to their families following a petition to the Israeli High Court.
Activists expect Israel to release more remains in the next weeks.
