Fayyad Calls for Release of Tax Revenues

RAMALLAH, November 26, 2011 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Salam Fayyad Saturday called on the international community to pressure Israel to release the Palestinian tax revenues, according to a statement issued by his office.

The statement, which was released after Fayyad’s meeting with the Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, called for overcoming the obstacles facing the peace process and on Israel to stop its violation of the international law.

Fayyad briefed Kozakou-Marcoullis on the development in the Palestinian territory and the efforts to establish a Palestinian state.

He reiterated Palestinian demands of a sovereign state within the1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, which requires direct action from the international community.

He said the European Union must play a significant role to guarantee the Palestinian people’s rights, end the occupation and achieve a just peace.

Kozakou-Marcoullis said that her country supports an independent Palestinian state and will always support the Palestinian people’s just cause.
