RAMALLAH, March 7, 2011 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) appealed to all concerning authorities to end the suffering of the journalist, Alaa al-Titi, who’s being held on charges of sedition in relation to his work with Al-Aqsa TV (controlled by Hamas).
The Court of Appeals in Hebron had previously affirmed his innocence after Hebron’s Magistrate’s Court found him innocent on April 24, 2009; the attorney general however repealed the decision.
The judge postponed al-Titi’s twentieth trial, scheduled on March 6, until April 4 at the general attorney’s request for more time to gather new evidence in support of the case against him, after their formal witness, Palestinian Legislative Council member Ali Abu Yata, testified for al-Titi.
Al-Titi’s lawyer, Hamzeh Awad objected the general attorney’s request, and demanded it to immediately show its new evidence; however, the judge approved the prosecution’s request.
Al-Titi told MADA: “For more than two and a half years I have been going to the court, facing a new judge every three or four trails. The court has still not taken a decision on my case despite the fact I was previously found innocent of the same charges. The prosecution’s constant stalling is threatening my career. I ask the court to expedite the determination of this case in accordance with the overwhelming evidence of my innocence and the inability of the prosecution to present its case so I can move forward in my career.”
