RAMALLAH, March 7, 2011 (WAFA)- Majida Masri, minister of Social Affairs, Monday signed an agreement with Barbara Georgi , representative of UN Population Fund (UNFPA), to support the ministry’s plan for the period 2011-2013.
The agreement finances the ministry’s plans about youth, gender and the elderly sectors with $100,000.
Masri said that the ministry’s plan regarding youth and gender sector entails developing one educational curriculum for all vocational centers of the ministry. In addition to centers concerned with developing youth, specifically the poor and the ones with limited salaries.
The plans in these sectors aim to develop the abilities of professional trainers and provide job opportunities for the unemployed.
Regarding the elderly sector, the plan aims to prepare a law which is expected to be endorsed by the government, to form a national committee for the care of the elderly in addition to reviewing and renewing a national strategic plan for them.
George said that for the first time the fund supports the elderly sector.
