Ramallah Area Village Suffers from Closure

Ramallah, February 3, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Thursday continue closing all the main entrances of Silwad, a village northeast of Ramallah, for the second day, according to local residents.

Qaddoura Faris, head of the Palestinian Prisoners Club and one of Silwad’s residents, said that Israeli soldiers have surrounded Silwad since yesterday evening and closed all its main entrances with cement blocks without any clear reason, and despite the fact that settlers do not use that road.

The closure is forcing residents from Silwad and nearby villages to use longer bypass roads to reach their work in Ramallah or to return home.

According to witnesses, Israeli soldiers arrested this morning some residents who were passing check points surrounding the village.
