HEBRON, February 2, 2011 (WAFA) – The Israeli army prevented calls for prayer from the Ibrahimi mosque (Cave of the Patriarchs) in the southern West Bank city of Hebron 50 times last month, according to the Ministry of Waqf and Islamic Affairs.
It said in a report published Wednesday that calls for prayer from the minaret of the Ibrahimi mosque were prevented 'on the pretext they disturb (Jewish) settlers in the occupied section of the mosque.”
It said this act ignores all international laws that ensure freedom of worship and the safe and secure access to religious sites.
The director of the Hebron Waqf, Zeid Ja’bari, told WAFA that this policy, in addition to strict military procedures at the entrances and the main roads leading to the mosque, are used to hassle Palestinian Muslims and prevent them from performing their prayers in the mosque.
