Released Prisoner: Situation in Israeli Prisons is Extremely Difficult

RAMALLAH, February 2, 2011 (WAFA) - Muntaha al-Taweel, who was recently released from Israeli prison, said the situation in the HaSharon prison, where she was held, is extremely difficult.

She said prison administration refuses to give the prisoners any of their basic rights and needs.

Taweel, released Tuesday after being held for 13 months in administrative detention, said that prisoners suffer from medical negligence and that one of them, Kifah Jibreel, suffers from a heart problem which is causing her deterioration in the functioning of her body parts.

The prison administration rejected appeals by the detainee and her family to allow a specialist doctor to examine her.

Taweel stressed the need for giving attention to prisoners held in solitary confinement.
