RAMALLAH, February 1, 2011 (WAFA) - PLO Executive Committee member Ghassan Al Shakaa expressed Tuesday his concern about developments in Egypt, calling Egyptians to restore unity of their country.

Shakaa said that Egypt has historically been one of the biggest supporters of the Palestinian cause and has stood by the side of Palestinians in various international arenas.

He expressed his confidence in the ability of the Egyptian people to overcome this crisis and restore Egypt to its advanced stand in the Arab and international world.

The General Union of Palestinian Writers also expressed its solidarity with the Egyptian people and condemned their oppression by the government, demanding the release of political prisoners, the response to the public's outcry for fighting poverty and corruption, the protection of public rights, maintenance of civil peace and the peaceful transition of authority.
