Israel Orders House Demolition in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, January 27, 2011 (WAFA) - A joint crew of the Israeli municipality and the Nature Protection Agency delivered on Thursday two demolition orders of a house and sheep barn in Al-Tur neighborhood of east Jerusalem.

According to Yousef Abu-Sbitan, the crews of the municipality and Nature Protection Agency came to the house when no one was there, leaving a demolition order with a notice of two days for implementation.

Abu-Sbitan said that the area of the house is 70 square meters and that it was built 37 years ago. It houses eight people and has an adjacent sheep barn. The Israeli municipality of Jerusalem imposed on Abu-Sbitan a fine of 16,000 shekels (about $4300) last year.

The Israeli crew also notified a resident in the same area of a demolition order for a room owned by Mahfouz Shabaneh, a father of eight children.
