CAIRO, January 25, 2011 (WAFA) – Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Tuesday renewed his demand for a just solution to the Palestinian issue saying that such a solution has taken too long.
“Solving the Palestinian issue does not only lead to a lasting peace, it is also the way to remove the arguments and excuses of terrorism and extremism within our region and around the world, and the way to put the Middle East countries on a new path of regional cooperation for the benefit of their people,” said Mubarak according to an interview published by the Egyptian Police magazine.
He added that all parties of the world order have a responsibility towards achieving peace in the region, because further deterioration in the Middle East will lead to an escalation of terrorism which affects the entire world.
He said he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Sharm El Sheikh two weeks ago that Israel must bear the responsibility of taking the peace process out of its current impasse, alluding to the steps required by Israel to save peace efforts.
Mubarak also brought up the current situation in the Gaza Strip and steps needed to alleviate the suffering of its people, warning against any new aggression on Gaza.
He added that the United States and the international quartet must turn their promises into serious and effective action in order to advance the process of a just and comprehensive peace.
