RAMALLAH, January 24, 2011 (WAFA) – Ahmed Qurei, head of the Jerusalem Affairs Department in the PLO, denied on Monday what Al Jazeera aired of documents on Palestinian concessions in Jerusalem.
Qurei called for an urgent meeting for the Arab League follow-up committee, the executive committee of the PLO, Palestinian leaders and nationalist and Islamic leaders to discuss this issue and what he described as Al Jazeera’s campaign against Palestinian leadership.
“This is an incitement campaign against Palestinian leadership, authority and the PLO at a critical time during a fierce Israeli battle against President Abbas, accusing him of trying to delegitimize it,” he said.
“Al Jazeera report is a step in that direction,” he said.
Qurei also pointed out that this campaign came at the same time Israel is trying to erase the Palestinian Arab character of Jerusalem.
He stressed that documents aired on Al-Jazeera do not reflect the Palestinian position or the position of the negotiator representing it, adding that “all our negotiations were documented.”
“Our negotiations after Oslo were all public and open,” he said. “No one can prevent us from informing the media of what happens in the negotiations. There is nothing to hide and our position is not personal, it is a leadership position.”
