RAMALLAH, January 24, 2011 ( WAFA) - Yasser Abed Rabbo, secretary of  the PLO Executive Committee, Monday accused al Jazeera television satellite, based in Qatar, of plotting to weaken the Palestinian authority and its president Mahmoud Abbas.

Abed Rabbo said in a press conference that Al Jazeera has launched a campaign against the Palestinian leadership similar to an Israeli one headed by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aiming to weaken the Palestinian Authority.

He said the campaign aims to distort the Palestinian positions for the general public.

“It is similar to the campaign launched against Yasser Arafat after the failure of the Camp David talks in 2000,” he said.

He called on independent Palestinian organizations to set up a committee to look into the authenticity of these documents and Al Jazeera report.

Abed Rabbo said that Al Jazeera lacks transparency and professionalism, which are the main standards of media.

He added that the maps and documents presented in Al Jazeera report are already distributed to the public and officials all over the world and that there was nothing secret about them.

Abed Rabbo said the PA will not take any action against Al Jazeera staff in the Palestinian Territory saying they are not responsible for the policy of their organization.
