CAIRO, January 23, 2011 (WAFA) - Preparations are underway for the international conference in support of Jerusalem to be held on February 2nd in Doha, Qatar.
The conference aims to deliver clear messages to the international community on the disturbing situation in Jerusalem in light of the Israeli escalation.
It will be attended by experts, academics and religious figures from more than 75 countries worldwide.
The conference will set plans and aim for their immediate implementation in order to save what is left of Jerusalem in the face of ongoing Israeli efforts to erase its Palestinian character, as is the case in Silwan, Wadi Joz, Sheikh Jarrah and Damascus Gate (Bab Al Amood). The recent demolition of Shepherd Hotel also indicates the seriousness of the Israeli measures in Jerusalem.
The following themes will be addressed: Jerusalem's history, Jerusalem and international law, the status quo, current Israeli policies in the city and the role of civil society organizations in the defense of the city.
This conference is part of the implementation of the Arab League decisions in the Sirte, Libya summit of 2010.
