CAIRO, January 22, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to hold important talks with his Egyptian counterpart President Hosni Mubarak on Monday in Cairo, according to Palestine’s ambassador to Egypt Barakat al-Farra.
He told WAFA on Saturday that Abbas and a high level Palestinian delegation are scheduled to arrive in Cairo Sunday afternoon on a two-day official visit. Abbas will meet Mubarak and other Egyptian officials, he said.
President Abbas, he said, will brief Mubarak on the latest Palestinian and Arab efforts to get a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning Israel’s settlement construction in the Palestinian Territory.
Farra said the two leaders will also discuss bilateral relations, which he described as solid, as well as general issues of common interest to the two sides, particularly the stalemate in the peace process.
Abbas will be accompanied by Saeb Erekat, head of the Negotiations Affairs Department in the PLO, Azzam al-Ahmad, member of Fatah Central Council and head of its parliamentary bloc, as well as presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh.
