JERICHO- 18 January, 2011 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas said the visit of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Palestine is historic.

In a statement to WAFA Tuesday before his meeting with Medvedev in Jericho, Abbas described Medvedev’s visit as “historic and a privilege to us all as Palestinians.'

e added: 'We are very proud and grateful to the Russian President. This visit affirms the ties and bonds between the Palestinian and Russian People.'

Abbas considered this visit as “a confirmation of Russia's position toward the Palestinian people to obtain their full legal rights, an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. This is an official and a historical position.'

The President ended his statement by thanking the Russian president for visiting the most ancient city in the world.
