JERUSALEM, January 18, 2011 (WAFA) – Clashes occurred Monday night between Palestinians and Israeli police in the village of Silwan in east Jerusalem according to local residents.
Clashes broke out after citizens threw stones and empty bottles at the Israeli forces whose presence provoked the local residents.
Israeli forces responded by firing a large number of tear gas cannisters, flares and sound bombs. No injuries were reported.
The forces also fired tear gas at residents' houses causing suffocation among some of the elderly and sick.
The clashes took place in the center of Silwan, mainly the Bustan area.
