JERUSALEM, January 16, 2011 (WAFA) – Israel terminated the residence of Jamal Bheider, a Jerusalem citizen living in Beit Hanina, and confiscated his ID, alleging that he lives abroad.
Bheider told WAFA that Israeli soldiers detained him at a checkpoint near Gilo settlement between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, informed him that his residence is terminated and banned him from entering Jerusalem.
Jamal Bheider is a medical student in Russia.
His attorney Svetlana Cram said that the decision issued by the Israeli Ministry of Interior is illegal and part of the undeclared war against Palestinian presence in Jerusalem.
Israel adopts a policy of terminating residency for Jerusalemites who live abroad for over three years or who obtain foreign citizenship.
