Palestinian Consumer Price Index for 2010 Up by 3.75%

RAMALLAH, January 13, 2011, (WAFA) - Overall consumer price index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory with its 2004 base year (2004=100) reached 129.0 in 2010, an increase by 3.75% compared with 2009, today said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

It said the CPI increased by 2.83% in December 2010 compared with December 2009, while it indicated stability in December 2010 compared with November 2009.

Analysis of consumer price developments for year 2010 indicates increases in the following major expenditure groups:

Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 12.13%

Education, 6%

Miscellaneous goods and services, 5.2%

Food and soft drinks, 3.4%

Textiles, clothing and footwear, 3.92%

Transportation, 2.64%

At the same time, there was a decrease in the following major expenditure group:

Communications, 2.04%

Palestinian Territory experienced different overall CPI developments by region as follows:

Jerusalem, 5.25%

West Bank, 4.24%

Gaza Strip, 1.72%
