RAMALLAH, January 11, 2011 (WAFA) – The Israeli army today arrested Omar Abdul Razek, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council from the Hamas-backed Change and Reform Block.
The army arrested Abdul Razek, 58, at his Salfit home in the West Bank, confiscating as well his personal computer and cellular phones.
He had served as minister of finance in the 10th Palestinian government established after the January 2006 legislative elections.
Abdul Razek was one of over 30 Hamas lawmakers Israel had rounded up in 2006 following the abduction of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit near Gaza.
He, along with most of the lawmakers, was released three or four years later except for two, but Israel had in recent weeks re-arrested six of the Change and Reform lawmakers. Four of the six had been placed in administrative detention.
Israel also holds two Fatah members of the Legislative Council including Marwan Barghouti, member of Fatah Central Council, and Jamal Tirawi, as well as the secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmad Saadat.
