EUPOL COPPS participates in PCP Graduation Ceremony

JERICHO, January 14, 2010 (WAFA)- New EUPOL COPPS’ Lead Police Adviser, Mr Jari Kinnunen and Canadian Specialist Police Training Adviser, Mr Jeffrey Dowling participated today in the graduation ceremony of a training course on Instructional Techniques for the Palestinian Civil Police (PCPl.

 The graduation ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General Majed HAWARI; Colonel Ghazi ASFOUR; Lieutenants Colonel Zaher Sabbah and Mahmoud Salah Eddin. Birzeit University was represented by Dr Muneer Kazzaz and Dr Ghassan Faramand.

The one week course on Instructional Techniques, coordinated through Birzeit University, has been given to 30 PCP instructors at the Jericho Police Training School (JPTS). The purpose of this training is to assist of JPTS instructors to better deliver the police curriculum.

A part from this training, EUPOL COPPS is also supporting the JPTS with a basic police training curriculum, with the aim of meeting international standards, and coordinating the construction of the new Jericho Police Training School. The current budget of the project is approximately $15M coming from the European Commission and the following donor countries: Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The completed facility will include classrooms, male and female dormitories; an auditorium; a gymnasium; a library and shooting range.  Ground preparation work is currently underway for all electrical and water services. The construction is due to be completed by February 2011.

Mr Jeffrey Dowling and Mr Darrel Longley are the two EUPOL COPPS’ officials (Canadians) in charge of the development of the training curriculum.
