7500 Palestinian prisoners including children in Israeli Jails


GAZA, March 3, 2004, (WAFA)- The number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails has risen to around 7500 including children and young women, a statistical report of the Ministry of Prisoners Affairs said.... According to the report issued Wednesday, the number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails is 5906 prisoners, according to the Ministry's records. The rest of other prisoners are yet to be documented by the ministry.... The report also said, the number of prisoners, before the outbreak of the current “Intifada” in September 2000, was 770 prisoners from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.... The report stated that around 2000 Palestinian children aged between 11 to 18 years old while 200 female prisoners, were arrested since the beginning of “Al Intifada”, of whom 336 Palestinian children and 75 female prisoners are still in the Israeli jails.... Dozens of them have been suffering from chronic diseases such as cancer, heart problems, respiratory difficulties, spinal cord and back diseases.... The report also said that 166 Palestinian prisoners died inside the Israeli jails because of torture and medical negligence. 41% died because of medical negligence and 18% of torture, the report confirmed.... The report stated that 315 Palestinian prisoners have so far spent 10 to 25 years in Israeli jails.... According to the statistical report, 378 prisoners were sentenced to life imprisonment and 128 others to sentences between 10-15 years in jail.... In addition, Palestinian prisoners have been subjected to daily torture such as putting them inside refrigerators, depriving them of sleeping as well as beating them up, the report concluded....
