Lawyer among 11 detained from West Bank

NABLUS, Tuesday, October 29, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces detained at least 11 Palestinians, including a lawyer, in multiple overnight raids across the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS) in a press statement.

PPS said that Israeli forces rounded up four Palestinians after ransacking their families’ houses in Asira Ash-Shamaliya town, north of Nablus city.

In Salfir district, PPS confirmed an Israeli military raid in Iskaka village, east of Salfit city, resulting in the detention of two Palestinians, including a lawyer.

In Qalqilia district, Israeli military vehicles raided the northern West Bank city of Qalqilia, where soldiers detained two other Palestinians, according to the PPS statement.

In Jenin district, Israeli forces barged their way into Burqin town, southwest of Jenin, where they held a former prisoner and his son for several hours.

In the meantime, PPS confirmed that three Palestinians were detained in several predawn raids across Bethlehem district.

At least one of the three detainees was identified as a resident of  Duheisha refugee camp, south of Bethlehem city.

Monday evening, Israeli police detained five Palestinians, including a 17-year-old teen for allegedly attempting to stab police officer in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
