Jordan denounces Israel’s approval of new settlement units as a violation of international law

AMMAN, January 13, 2018 (WAFA) – Jordan denounced on Tuesday Israel‘s approval of the construction of 1122 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank describing this act as a violation of international law, according to the official Jordanian news agency, Petra.

The agency quoted government spokesman Mohammed Momani as saying that the approval "mirrors a unilateral behavior by the Israeli government which doesn’t take into consideration the two-state solution."

Momani stressed that UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which considered Israel‘s establishment of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 1967 illegal, is a clear expression of the international consensus in this regard.

He said that "the only way to achieve peace and security is to establish an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital based on international terms of reference and the Arab Peace Initiative."
